Community Victorious in First Round!
Late last night, opponents learned Robertson's concrete plant withdrew their application from the City of Oceanside. This means the item will not be heard at next Wednesday's (February 21) Council Meeting. City Manager Peter Weiss, indicated they would have to resubmit their application and go back before the Planning Commission if they requested the item be pulled off the agenda, Various members of the council have indicated that Robertson’s must get community support in order for this project to pass muster.

Robertson's will now be required to go through an environmental process.  Nadine Scott, the community activist, who led the opposition to this plant said, "They should be required to do a full-blown EIR due to the location on Loma Alta Creek and the biological sensitivity of the area. We want good businesses to come into Oceanside that will contribute to our economy, add services that the community wants and deserves and will not negatively impact our quality of life or environment.”

She has promised to continue close scrutiny of this project and any studies that come forward.

She also said she is following the Buena Vista Lagoon hotel project. A development proposal for a 3 story hotel at the edge of the lagoon deserves a close look.  Scott said, "We must continue to give these projects on our watersheds the highest scrutiny. When they will negatively impact the environment and our precious resources, we must be prepared to join together and oppose such projects.  Again we want to ensure that businesses who come into our City can meet the threshold requirements of contributing more benefit to the community instead of more burdens."

The hearing on that project will be heard tonight at 6pm in City Council Chambers, Oceanside.
